Who we are

National Association for Rural Development Montana “Romontana” was established in 2000 as a non-governmental, multi-sectoral, with the aim to support the overall development of mountain areas in Romania.

15 years of activity!
The objectives of the association are achieved through specific projects and activities aimed at one or more fields such as sustainable development in mountain areas (tourism, forestry, agriculture, etc.), community development, environmental protection, education and vocational training etc. .

In its 15 years of existence, “Romontana” has acquired extensive experience in the implementation of rural development projects and in policy and strategy mountain supporting the central government, regional and local. Between 2001 and 2006 “Romontana” has implemented several small-scale projects in cooperation with Euromontana (European Association of Mountain Regions – www.euromontana.org) and SAB (Swiss Association of Mountain Regions – www.sab.ch) funded by SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation) and numerous local development projects. In the period 2006 – 2015 “Romontana” implemented as beneficiary and partner more border cooperation projects between Romania, Ukraine and Moldova, financed by PHARE CBC – Cross Border Cooperation Programme Romania-Ukraine, but also from other external sources such as “Education for Sustainable Development in mountain areas by Country – The Kiss Mountains”, “The integration of border regions in rural and green tourism development”, “Environment Plus – reducing the impact of waste on the environment. Solutions and cross-border issues “,” Consortium border management and intervention for protection of surface waters in the border region Romania – Ukraine – CTMI “,” Move4Nature – Develop training tools Education for Sustainable Development in the Carpathians – educational guidance of Schools in the Carpathians ” etc ..

“Romontana” is also relevant experience in organizing events such as national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, courses, exhibitions, fairs and other similar events.

“Romontana” with other organizations working in the interest of sustainable development of the mountain region in Romania, as in Romania Mountain Forum, Federation of Mountain Farmers ‘Dorna’, Heifer Foundation for Romania and others has made a significant contribution to the development “National Strategic Guidelines for mountain areas Sustainable Development (2014-2020)” approved by the Government Memorandum Romania in May 2014 as a permanent dialogue with the Ministry of Agriculture and Sustainable Development and other state institutions dealing the implementation and monitoring of the outcomes of this strategic document.

Internationally, the association is a member of three of the largest organizations that address sustainable development of mountain regions, namely the European Association of Mountain Regions – “Euromontana” Partnership Mountain (UN / FAO) and the Forum of Rural World, being involved European interest in activities and Modi targeting mountain areas. “Romontana” is a partner of dialogue and implementation of the Interim Secretariat of the Carpathian conventions serve, hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP Vienna).
