The XI’th European Mountain Convention, 25 – 27 September 2018, Vatra Dornei (Romania): “Cultural heritage as an engine for creativity, innovation and socio-economic development of mountain areas”

The romanian mountain resort of VATRA DORNEI hosted between 25 – 27 September 2018 the XI’th European Mountain Convention, under the European Year of Cultural Heritage, with the title: “Cultural heritage as an engine for creativity, innovation and socio-economic development of mountain areas”. “A valuable inheritance from the past, a strategic resource for the future!” It focused on the tangible and intangible cultural heritage in mountain areas and on how this strategic resource, inherited from the past, can be a key asset for developing sustainable and attractive mountain areas in the future. It enhanced the role of European mountain areas, their communities and their cultural heritage in addressing the challenges of the future, disclosing larger perspectives and creating new opportunities.… Citește articolul

Conference “Transforming the mountain regions of Romania” – Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, World Bank – 27’th of June 2018

“Transforming the mountain regions of Romania” was the title of the Conference organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in partnership with the World Bank in Bucharest on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Among the guests were renowned international experts, Franz Fischler – former European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Thomas Dax – Senior analyst at the Austrian Federal Institute for Mountain Farming, Nicolas Evrard – Secretary General of the European Association of Elected Representatives of the Mountain Regions and World Bank experts. From Romania some of the most representative organizations and institutions for the specific character of the sustainable development of the mountain area were invited, including RoMontana Association (one of the oldest and most active in Romania) – represented by Rey Adrian Radu, President, as well as representatives of other ministries, members of the Committee for Agriculture in Parliament and local public authorities.… Citește articolul

The “Mountain Law” project was adopted by the Chamber of Deputies from Romania. One billion Euro for the mountain area!

The Chamber of Deputies from Romania adopted the “mountain law” project, with 245 votes in favor, 1 against and 28 abstentions, which provides for the establishment of a program to encourage activities in the mountain area, for which a budget of EUR 1 billion is allocated from the state budget for 10 years. The law regulates the ways of smart, sustainable and inclusive protection and development of the mountain area. According to the adopted texts, this law approves the program for encouraging activities in the mountain area, for which one billion euro is allocated for a period of 10 years from the coming into force of this law, from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry Agriculture and Rural Development.… Citește articolul

PEFC national forestry certification standards for Romania have been endorsed by PEFC International on the 04’th of June, 2018! PEFC is the world’s largest forest certification system. The National Standards for Romania were developed from 2014 to 2017 through a project that benefited from funding from the Swiss-Romanian Cooperation Programme, being implemented by a consortium consisting of Asociatia Romontana, Universitatea ”Stefan cel Mare”, Suceava (Forestry Faculty), Open Fields Foundation, Nostra Silva Federation and Schweizerische Arbeitsgemeinschaft für die Berggebiete SAB (Swiss Centre for Mountain Regions). International Mountain Day – 11’th of December 2017: “Mountains under pressure: climate, hunger, migration”

IMD_temp_Logo INTENATIONAL MOUNTIAN DAY – 11’th of DECEMBER 2017 MOUNTAINS UNDER PRESSURE: CLIMATE, HUNGER, MIGRATION The United Nations General Assembly declared 11 December “International Mountain Day of the Mountain”. Since 2003, a great emphasis has been placed on raising awareness of the importance of mountains for life, highlighting the opportunities and constraints of mountain development and building alliances / partnerships that will bring positive changes for mountain populations and environments. “Mountains under pressure: climate, hunger, migration” is the theme selected by the United Nations to celevrate the International Mountain Day in 2017. Almost one billion people live in mountain areas, and over half the human population depends on mountains for water, food and clean energy.… Citește articolul
